Angelski
Na’ia Angelski

What is belly dance? Who is a belly dancer? Where does belly dance come from and where is it going? Na'ia believes that if these questions could be wholly and accurately answered, she would not need to dance. Na'ia approaches belly dance as being an artistic expression, and without setting limitations as to what the dance is and is not, she encourages its practice to be a personal experience. ? Na'ia holds a BFA in Visual Art from the University of Victoria.? She became fascinated with non-western dance after studying Indian Cinema and women’s traditional art forms of South and Southeast Asia as a component of her art history studies at UViC. Na'ia began belly dancing in 2005 and has been teaching classes at the Pemberton Community Centre for the past two years. Inspired by the fusion style of her primary instructor, Bella-d, Na'ia has also attended workshops with Jillina, one of Los Angeles most sought after dancers, Sonia and Issam of the Belly Dance Superstars, Suhaila Salimpour, Lava and Adel Awab (table and percussion). Na'ia has been a regular performer with the Whistler Belly dancers, performing with the group for Tourism Whistler, the Whistler Art Walk, LUNA, and other events. She has performed solo for the Elements of BC Mountaintop Gala, Artrageous, Pemberton’s Canada Day Celebrations, the Women's Wellness Fair and for private parties and functions. In the spring of 2008, Na'ia performed as a guest dancer with Whitman Dance Theatre in Washington, and has also danced as a guest of Adel Awab at the Mission Folk Festival (2006).

Na'ia lives and works in Pemberton, BC with her husband and cat.
